The Collected Works of Gracia N. Jones

Gracia set out to change the world's perception of her beloved ancestors.

Emma and Joseph: Their Divine Mission ∙ is a careful, sensitive history describing the powerful sustaining relationship that Emma and Joseph shared and their tremendous mutual loyalty throughout the seventeen years of their marriage. Author, Gracia N. Jones write: "There is no doubt that Emma put her whole soul into the effort of helping to lay the foundation of the kingdom of God. Her faith in the truthfulness of [Joseph's Mission] caused Emma to turn her back on parents, social position, security and all things a girl holds dear, to share a beggar's life with her prophet husband, whose entire energy was directed toward fulfilling God's commandment to take the message of the Restoration to the whole world . . ."

Joseph's devotion to Emma shines through his numerous letters to her. Of Emma, Joseph wrote, "She that was my wife, even the wife of my youth, and the choice of my heart . . . Again she is here, even in the seventh trouble---undaunted, firms and unwavering---unchangeable, affectionate Emma!"

Emma and Lucy ∙ Because of her unwavering devotion to the restored gospel, Lucy Mack Smith has come to stand as a beloved role model in Church history. And Emma, referred to by the Lord as an elect lady, never faltered in her testimony of her husband's mission and of the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon.

But this is not a book about these women individually, for Emma and Lucy had a close, intertwined relationship. More mother than mother-in-law, more daughter than daughter-in-law, they were also women in Israel. Bound together by the gospel, their mutual admiration and friendship, and their love for and devotion to Joseph, these women became inseparable later in life as Emma lovingly cared for the aged Lucy.

Carefully researched by the great-great-granddaughter of Emma and Joseph, this remarkable book offers a deep, thoughtful, and tender look at these two most important women of the Early Church. A fascinating and worthy read for every person interested in Church history.
